"Available Light, Miriam at La Posada"

In late June, in the summer of 1996, I was in New Mexico to attend a Santa Fe Workshops course. I went early to do some private shooting with a model I had met the year before. The last thing in the world we expected was rain (Santa Fe had gone over 200 days without measurable precipitation). But rain it did—a steady rain under low and dark clouds. Rather than give up an opportunity to work Miriam and I decided to do a shoot, indoors, using only available light, at the La Posada where I was staying. In one room of the suite was a small east-facing window. An antique ice cabinet that served as a night stand was moved next to the window for Miriam to sit on. The light from that small window was all the illumination there was. I also decided to do the shoot hand-held, using 400, 800, and 1600 speed films. Here are some of the images of Miriam that I captured over a period of two hours as we talked while I shot.
