"Stephan at White Place" 1997
On June 24, 1997, during Joyce Tenneson’s “Evocative Portrait” workshop, I worked in an outdoors venue north of Santa Fe at “White Place” near Abiquiu. It is a wilderness area, with stark gray-white volcanic ash formations. We arrived there in the early afternoon. The sun was high and the light hot. The place reminded me of ancient times and of other worlds. It was as if I had been transported to the plains of Marathon in classical Greek times, or to the shores of ancient Crete. When it came my turn to work with the model Stephan Serrano I saw him in the roles of mythic figures and of Greek warriors.
These as some of the figure images I recorded that day as part of the Santa Fe Workshop program. The shoot was done with unfiltered Kodak E-100 SW film rated at ASA 100. A Minolta Flash Meter III was used to determine exposures.
