"Captain Tom Cubbage, 525 MI Group, Saigon, RVN, 1967"
In the pre-Têt '68 days, when my unit operated under the shallow cover as the Joint Technical Advisor Detachment (JTAD), we wore civilian clothes and drive Korean era jeeps painted Navy blue. My cover story was that I was under contract as the company's photographer. We were not armed in the city.

"Captain TomCubbage, Asst. S-2, Collection, 525 MI Gp. RVN, 2-68"

Tom at his desk in his office at HQ 525 MI Group. , Post- Tet 68" When the Battle of Têt-68 began, my unit's daily dress changed to fatigues, and we went about armed. By this date I had acquired a sub-machine gun as my main weapon. I had to drive about Saigon to conduct liaison visits, and it was easier to have the Swedish-K draped across my chest as a drove my jeep about in the city after the fighting had died down

"Captain Tom Cubbage, Saigon Post-Tet 68"

When the Viet Cong attacked Saigon, I changed out of my pre-Têt civies. My main weapon in the first few days was the M2 Carbine, a Colt 45 pistol, a dagger, and four hand grenades. As tear gas was often used in the city I also had my gas mask.
